Alex and Rob have become known as two of the leading experts on veteran transition in the United States. Their expertise come from the definitive guide to veteran transition they co-authored, Warrior to Civilian: The Field Manual for the Heroes Journey, their five years of research and data for the book (including interviews with hundreds of veterans and others), their speaking with dozens of companies and their own careers in consulting, finance, law and corporate America from small to large companies. With a deep understanding of both military and corporate cultures, we provide actionable insights that bridge the gap between these two worlds.
OUR OFFERINGS
The Heroes Journey consulting and coaching program offers specialized expertise to companies seeking to create or enhance their veteran hiring practices and optimize veteran integration into companies.
Veteran Hiring & Integration Programs. Many well-intentioned companies hire veterans, but few have an effective integration program in place that actually empowers veterans -- and veteran job churn rates reflect that. Alex and Rob leverage their extensive experience, survey of dozens of companies to create and revamp hiring and integration processes, using the best practices they have discovered.
Veteran Coaching. Hiring veterans who were successful in their prior military careers does not guarantee success in the civilian work environment. In fact, it can be the reverse. We conduct internal discussions with veterans based on case studies of successful and challenged transitions to civilian life – for both leave clues. Based on our research and lessons learned, we provide frank, effective guidance that helps veterans in their ongoing transition.
Veteran & Civilian Engagement. We civilians and veterans have much to learn from each other. We lead internal programs designed to recognize veterans and enhance veteran/civilian working relationships. The program features internal intake and roundtable discussions where veterans, employees and managers engage in constructive dialogues. This is about improving internal communication, collaboration and team building.
Executive Coaching. Veteran integration programs are maximized when executives not only sponsor the programs but get involved and lead them – and the reverse is true, meaning that when these programs become box-checking exercises, delegated down the chain of command, participants often become cynical about them. This is a tricky situation given differences between civilian and military employees, including at the basic level of how language is used and how expectations are expressed and measured. We provide one-on-one coaching sessions with senior managers and C-suite executives.
External Engagement & Leadership. Companies have much to learn from each other. Roundtable discussions are one way to share that knowledge. This is about community engagement at the local and national levels and the leadership opportunities that arise from this. We lead – and bring publicity to -- programs for community and national engagement and leadership.
